1.1 Background of the Study

Maiduguri Local Government, the capital of Borno State, has faced significant security challenges due to insurgency and conflict. In such a context, newspapers play a crucial role in informing the public, analyzing events, and shaping discourse on security measures. Effective reporting can foster public awareness, build resilience, and support government and community-led security initiatives (Ibrahim & Abubakar, 2023). However, the nature of newspaper coverage—whether comprehensive, balanced, or biased—can influence public trust and perceptions of security efforts.
